By religious laws of the Sikhs it is not allowed for the men to cut their hair that is knoted up over the forehead and mostly covered by an adrett turban. Therefore the Sikhs are easily to recognize by their turbans and mighty beards. Sikhs have rather strict laws concerning cleanliness, they don’t smoke, don’t drink alcoholics and also don’t chew betel nuts. Healthy kind of living did support that Sikhs are strong and active people, all bearing the surname Singh (lion). Although most Sikhs living in Pujab with its capital Amritsar, they too achieved in the other parts of India important positions, mainly in the military and technical field. Till nowadays Sikh regiments are the backbone of the Indian army. Also many of the lorry- and busdrivers in North India are Sikhs and the thought that they originated from the warrior caste bears some irony considering the rather rude kind of driving on India’s highways..:-)
